Panormos. Everything passes. Everything arrives.
The Greeks called Palermo Panormos, “all harbour”. A nomadic architecture devoted to the journey of things lands at the port.
AI-generated image The port holds a strategic position in Manufacto’s geography. Before it was a city, Palermo was a landing place: Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Arab, Amalfitan, Genoese and Venetian merchants made its quays a place where the Mediterranean became trade, and trade produced culture.
Manufacto brings to the port a site-specific installation devoted to the journey of things. A large volume lands on the quay like a mysterious cargo: closed, marked by the journey, covered in names, coordinates, routes and destinations.
Then it opens.
The walls unfold, the container becomes space, the surfaces become tables, shelters, seats, supports. Inside, contemporary Sicilian making appears.
